The Dorworth ReportDick Dorworth

It was overcast and warmer in Sun Valley this morning. Bald Mountain continues to provide superb skiing. Last night's predicted snowfall did not materialize, and today's Baldy groomer run skiing was the best and International was the best of that. College, all of Greyhawk, Ridge and Flying Squirrel were also good. I didn't ski it, but a reliable informant reported fine skiing on College South Slopes. The light was a challenge at times.

The Nordic trails are freshly groomed and excellent skiing is reported throughout the valley. The backcountry snowpack is getting better with avalanche danger rated moderate to considerable. There are many skiers getting out and having great skiing, but the avalanche pros are not completely confident in the snowpack stability. After all, a moderate avalanche rating means one has a moderate chance of being killed in an avalanche. For those who like the backcountry but not the climb, and who want experienced backcountry judgment, Sun Valley Helicopter Ski Guides is in full operation. Phone 622-3108 or 726-1792 for information.

This from Simone de Beauvoir: "I tore myself away from the safe comfort of certainties through my love for truth; and truth rewarded me."
